This is a scene from a script titled The Fatalist, adapted by Julian Wycko from the short story of the same name written by Isaac Bashevis Singer. Although I had some assistance with pre-production, I shot and directed the scene myself. This was the first project on that featured more than two actors, so it presented several challenges. While filming I had to consider the many emotional nuances of the dialogue. Also, since the dialogue takes place while the actors are playing a hand of poker, continuity was an important issue when editing. The scene presented here is the dramatic climax of the script. Benjamin, a newcomer to a group of friends, upsets and embarrasses Emily, his love interest, by beating her in a hand of poker.
